Hi there, my name is Sophia, and I am a lover of all things gardening...
Hi there, my name is Sophia, and I am a lover of all things gardening and growing my own veggies, fruits and herbs. I was born in Berlin, Germany and migrated to Australia over 10 years ago. Life back in the 80’ and 90’ was very much different to the life we have today. I grew up with grandparents and parents who were passionate gardeners and plant lovers.
So, my own passion for gardening, growing plants and enjoying the sight of a healthy eco system started very early in my life. My Opa (dad’s dad in the below black and white photo) was a proud gardener who had a veggie patch in his back yard.
And my mum’s parents had an allotment to grow food on. My Oma was an absolute champion at preserving food and I remember her cellar being full of jars filled with veggies and fruits to keep us going during winter.
My parents owned a small garden outside of Berlin where we had fruit trees, grew potatoes and lots of herbs and other veggies.
My aunty and uncle (in the below picture with me) still have their allotment and even my cousin just recently got her hands on one as well. Whilst growing and preserving your own food was more of a necessity many moons ago, we have the privilege nowadays to make it a hobby and passion of ours.
In 2021 we moved from our pervious home in Karratha, which is located in the Pilbara (Western Australia), a hot desert with a lot of grassland to the beautiful Mediterranean climate in Perth (Capital of Western Australia). Our move gave me the opportunity to go hard out with my gardening and so far, it is going well. Because trust me, nothing grows well in 48’ Celsius (118’ Fahrenheit) heat with limited chance of rain.
On the wildlygardening.com blog you will find articles on how I am embarking on the journey to grow
my own food, tackle worm farming and manage the upkeep of a healthy organic garden.

My goal is to empower people to start a garden no matter how small or big and inspire people to be creative with it. It doesn’t matter if you have a small balcony, some space in your front/back yard or if you have a large plot/farm, get sowing and growing.
